It’s Rhubarb Season

We took a bus ride up around El Paso this week, and we were thankful to some of our residents for helping us find the most scenic route. It was a beautiful day to be out for a ride!

Our baking group made homemade brownies this week, and on May 25th they served soup, sandwiches and the brownies to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Our residents were busy cutting up rhubarb for rhubarb crisp this week as well. We would like to thank Jen Miller, Randy and Jolene Weber for their donation of the rhubarb. The building smelled so good!

Jim Sexton was here for entertainment and there was lots of toe-tapping and dancing going on!

We enjoyed playing shaker dice. Our top winner was Archie Delong, but Richard Schaffner wasn’t too far behind him.

To finish up the week, Father Prince was here for Catholic Mass. Thank you to Barb Cepek for helping out with the service, and thanks to Gerri Brunner for saying the rosary.

We would like to thank the Rock Elm Methodist for helping out with bingo and furnishing the bingo prizes.

We would like to wish Barb Johnson a very Happy Birthday.

National Nursing Home Week 2017

Tie Dying T-shirts

We had a very busy week with it being National Nursing Home Week. We did so many fun things throughout the week! Our theme was Spirit of America.

Our residents enjoyed tie dying t-shirts in red, white and blue. Residents also made an American flags this week, and we made homemade ice cream, which was also red, white and blue.

Barb Cepek was here for Bible class. Our blessing letter for the week was the letter M. We would like to thank Barb for volunteering her time.

We played red, white and blue bingo with the help of the Alter & Rosary. We would like to thank them for their help and for furnishing the bingo prizes.

We got a good game of shuffleboard going this week! Our top winner was Joan Binkowski with Archie Delong and Richard Schaffner not too far behind. We enjoyed a visit from the Elmwood second graders, who came to read to the residents. Later that day we worked on some American trivia.

We enjoyed an all-American cookout with grilled hot dogs, potato chips, baked beans, red, white and blue Jell-O, and shortcake with strawberries and blueberries on top.

During the week everyone dressed in red, white and blue for the theme. We would like to thank everyone who participated in our National Nursing Home week celebration!

Mother’s Day Celebration

We hope all the mothers had a wonderful Mother’s Day! We celebrated it with Muffins for Mom. The ladies at Heritage of Elmwood also were pampered with manicures to get ready for Mother’s Day.

We were busy this week with crafts, playing shaker dice and baking. We filled the halls with the smell of delicious chocolate when we baked brownies with red, white and blue M&Ms on top.

Pastor Weaver was here for Methodist church service, and Father Prince came for Catholic Mass. We would like to thank Robertta Holcomb and Barb Cepek for helping out with the services. We would also like to thank Gerri Brunner for saying the Rosary for us.

Throughout the week we have “Fun and Fit” classes. Residents kick the ball, bounce it around and do some stretches to get going for the day. One the nice days this week, we went outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.

We’re celebrating National Nursing Home Week May 14-20 with all sorts of additional fun coming up. We will post about events and activities on our Facebook page. Visitors are always welcome to join us!

Residents Adore the Spring Animals

Despite the wet weather this week, we still found a perfect day to go for a bus ride. We went over by Hatchville and stopped to see all the baby animals at our activity assistant’s place. We saw the baby chicks and we even got to feed a baby lamb.

Thank You to Deanna Brua for the donation of the dancing sun catchers. The residents love them!

We would like to thank Barb Cepek for volunteering her time to come for our Bible class. The blessing letter for the week was the letter S. After Bible class, we were off for Fun and Fit where we were busy kicking and bouncing the ball. We ended it by doing some stretches.

They were busy making homemade lemon bars to help out the kitchen. Throughout the week we also enjoyed the smell of fresh bread baking.

We played shaker dice this week with our top winner being Joan Binkowski.  Mary Jo Rathke and Bud Dahling were close behind.

The Elmwood Methodist Ladies were here to help out with bingo. We would like to thank them for also furnishing the bingo prizes!

Later in the week, Pastor Bergenthal was here for Lutheran church service. We also gathered together for the Rosary and Catholic Mass with Father Prince. We would like to thank Barb Cepek for helping out with mass and Gerri Brunner for saying the Rosary for us.

Baking Professionals in Progress

April 25th through May 1st

It sure was nice for the weather to be decent enough to get out for a bus ride! We ended up going past the places where a couple of the residents lived in the past. We went by Lorraine Weber’s and Dee Wolf’s place. It always puts smiles on their faces when we go for a drive by places with wonderful memories!

Barb Cepek was here for Bible class on Monday. Our blessing letter for the week was the letter R. We would like to thank Barb for volunteering her time. Rosary was said on Friday, followed by Catholic Mass with Father Prince. Barb Cepek helped out with that service too. Thank You Barb! We would also like to thank Jerri Brunner for saying the Rosary.

During our game time, we played some shaker dice this week. Congratulations to our top winner, Glenn Hammond. Joan Binkowski and Richard Schaffner weren’t too far behind!

Our residents were busy in baking group making homemade fudge in between bars and blueberry muffins this week. Yum!

We played bingo with the visitors from Rock Elm Methodist. We would like to thank them for spending time with us and for furnishing the bingo prizes. We love having visitors!

Throughout the week, we had our daily exercise group. We were busy kicking the ball around and passing it to each other.

Our residents got their feet tapping and were dancing to the music of Rudy Rudesill when he was here this week. We love music!

We celebrated two birthdays this month: Bud Dahling and Gerri Grueger.
