Second Grade Visitors

This week the residents of Heritage of Elmwood had many visitors!  Second graders from the school district came and read with our residents, and the Elmwood High School football team visited as well.  We enjoyed our time getting to know the kids.

Our residents were able to do special crafts with Becky Smith this week. She guided us in making homemade cards.  We appreciated her time with us, and had a lot of fun doing this activity!

Music was flowing throughout the building this week with performances by Jim Sexton and Two Frets Up.  We always enjoy dancing and singing to their music!  Singers were also able to participate in a sing-along on Friday.

The fall colors were beautiful on a scenic bus ride we took out in the country.  We have enjoyed getting outdoors before the weather gets cold!  We always welcome and enjoy visits by family and friends.

Halloween Crafting

We were very lucky to have many visitors and special events this week!  Kindergarten aged children from Elmwood visited, and spent time creating a Halloween craft with the residents.  We always enjoy their visits and look forward to seeing them next month!

This week, we spent time together reminiscing.  Many of our residents spent time working on farms and with apples, and the fall weather reminds them of those activities.  While sharing memories, we enjoyed fresh popped popcorn.

Our residents enjoyed watching the exciting Green Bay Packers game on Sunday!  We also enjoyed caramel apple cupcakes made by the baking group and the music of Rich Schroeder.

Our religious activites included bible class, with the letter “T” as our blessing letter for the week.  We also hosted Methodist and Catholic services.  Thank you to Barb Cepek, Gerri Brunner, Robertta Holcomb, Pastor Weaver, and Father Prince for volunteering their time to facilitate these activites.

Heritage of Elmwood’s Ellen Thompson selected for I-LEAD program

As seen in My Gateway News, two local senior care administrators have been selected to participate in advanced training. Ellen Thompson and Taylor Kollross have been accepted to attend the I-LEAD leadership development program hosted by LeadingAge Wisconsin.ellen-thompson

“This is a fantastic opportunity for these administrators to learn about the latest innovations and practices when it comes to leading employees and providing exceptional care for our residents” said Grace Lutheran Communities CEO Mike Christensen.

The I-LEAD program stands for learn, empower, achieve, and deliver. After many months of work, studying and face-to-face group projects, the few leaders chosen for the program develop new skills in a broad range of subjects such as diversity, leadership, motivation, mentoring, learning styles and collaboration.

“My goal for participating in this fellowship program is to gain further knowledge about myself, professionally and personally, in order to positively impact the residents who live at the Heritage of Elmwood. If I can grow and develop further, I will be able to better lead the team here at the Heritage of Elmwood,” Thompson said.

“I am excited and humbled to have been chosen for the 2017-2018 I-LEAD Cohort. I applied to I-LEAD to become a better leader for my community, residents, their families and our Pioneer staff,” Kollross says.

Ellen Thompson serves the residents at Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood, Wisconsin as the Administrator there overseeing all day-to-day operations. Taylor Kollross serves as the administrator at Pioneer health and Rehab in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin.
